# NewsBlur Alternatives 2026: 7 Readers by Feature

> NewsBlur alternatives compared on 2026 prices: which reader replaces its training, clustering, web feeds or self-hosting, and when to stay put.

*Disclosure: Hushread is my app. I've tried to be fair, and I say where the others are the better choice.*

The best NewsBlur alternatives depend on which part of NewsBlur you rely on. For a big free plan, Inoreader Free follows 150 feeds. For a calm paid service, Feedbin is $70 a year. For free apps, NetNewsWire covers Mac, iPhone and iPad, and FreshRSS or Miniflux run on your own server. If what you want is one story per event instead of the same news from ten outlets, Hushread groups that coverage on every plan, where NewsBlur keeps full clustering for its $99 tier. And nothing else copies NewsBlur's training, so if you live in its classifiers, you may be better off staying.

## What NewsBlur costs in 2026

I opened NewsBlur's pricing page on 15 October 2026. Free follows up to 64 sites, trains stories by author, tag and title, and includes the public blurblog and the iOS and Android apps ([NewsBlur pricing](https://www.newsblur.com/pricing)). Every new account starts with a 30-day premium trial, no card needed.

The paid plans:

- **Premium, $36 a year:** up to 1,024 sites, updates up to 5x more often, River of News by folder, search, text view and the natural language text and image classifiers.
- **Premium Archive, $99 a year:** up to 4,096 sites, web feeds from sites without RSS, duplicate clustering across all your feeds, a daily briefing, Ask AI, training on full text and an archive of every story, searchable forever.
- **Premium Pro, $29 a month:** up to 10,000 sites, every feed fetched every 5 to 15 minutes, and regular expression training.

If you subscribe through the iPhone app instead, the US App Store lists the same plans at $35.99, $99.99 and $29.99 ([App Store](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/newsblur/id463981119)).

NewsBlur is also still moving. Version 15 for iOS and Mac shipped on 3 October 2026 with a new Add + Discover screen that has shortcuts for YouTube, Reddit, newsletters, podcasts and Google News ([NewsBlur blog](https://blog.newsblur.com/2026/10/03/newsblur-15-for-ios/)). If you are leaving because it felt stale, look again first.

## The best NewsBlur alternative for what you use

### For a large free plan: Inoreader

Inoreader Free is free forever with no card, and it follows 150 feeds against NewsBlur Free's 64 ([Inoreader pricing](https://www.inoreader.com/pricing)). Pro raises that to 2,500 feeds and costs $7.50 a month billed annually or $9.99 billed monthly. In October 2024 Inoreader wrote that "The Free plan no longer contains ads" ([Inoreader blog](https://us.inoreader.com/blog/2024/10/the-new-inoreader-experience-is-here.html)). Its pricing page still lists an "Ad-free view" row, and the page does not say which plans include it today.

What you lose: training. Inoreader's pricing page lists rules and filters, which act on conditions you write, not on a thumbs up or down per author and tag the way NewsBlur works. Its duplicate filters are a Pro feature and match by URL, exact title or nearly identical title ([Inoreader blog](https://www.inoreader.com/blog/2020/08/win-the-clone-wars-with-duplicate-filters.html)), so they catch copies, not different outlets' takes on one event. My [Inoreader alternatives](/blog/inoreader-alternatives) post covers its limits in more detail.

### If you want AI to sort it for you: Feedly

NewsBlur's own [comparison page](https://www.newsblur.com/compare/feedly) puts the difference in one line: "Feedly uses AI to decide what's important for you," while NewsBlur has you train what is shown. It is the vendor's framing, but it is the real choice between the two. If you chose NewsBlur because you wanted to see why a story was hidden, Feedly will feel like a step back. If you are tired of training, it is the point.

On the US App Store, Pro is listed at $7.99 a month and Pro+ at $15.99 a month ([App Store](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/feedly-smart-news-reader/id396069556)). Feedly's prices vary by country and billing period, so I keep the full breakdown in [Feedly pricing](/blog/feedly-pricing) rather than repeat it here.

### For a clean paid service: Feedbin

Feedbin has one plan: $70 a year (which the page says saves $14) or $7 a month, after a 30-day trial with no credit card ([Feedbin pricing](https://feedbin.com/pricing)). It follows websites, newsletters through a unique email address for your account, podcasts and YouTube channels, extracts full text, has saved searches, and can star, mark read or push-notify articles with Actions. It syncs with iOS, Mac and Android apps.

It costs about twice NewsBlur Premium, with no story clustering and no training. What you get for that is one plan with no tiers: newsletters, podcasts and YouTube sit in the same chronological list as your feeds.

### For free on Apple devices: NetNewsWire

[NetNewsWire](https://netnewswire.com/) is a free, open source reader for Mac, iPhone and iPad. It syncs through iCloud or with Feedbin, Feedly, BazQux, Inoreader, NewsBlur, The Old Reader and FreshRSS. That last point matters: if you only dislike NewsBlur's apps, you can keep your NewsBlur account and read it in NetNewsWire instead. It needs macOS 15 or iOS 26, and its site lists no Android or Windows version.

### For self-hosting: FreshRSS, Miniflux, or NewsBlur itself

[FreshRSS](https://freshrss.org/) is free software under AGPL 3 that you run on your own server, and it can generate feeds by scraping websites that have none. [Miniflux](https://miniflux.app/) is a minimalist, open source alternative you also host yourself. If you would rather not run it, a hosted version maintained by its creator costs $15 a year after a 15-day trial, with feeds refreshed every 1 to 2 hours ([Miniflux hosting](https://miniflux.app/hosting.html)).

Before you switch for this reason, know that NewsBlur is open source under the MIT license and self-hosts with Docker: clone the repo and run `make` ([GitHub](https://github.com/samuelclay/NewsBlur)). If what you want is NewsBlur on your own hardware, that is the most direct route.

### For one story per event: Hushread

Hushread is my app, an RSS and news reader for iPhone, iPad, Android and the web. Your feed shows every article from the sources you pick, newest first, with nothing ranked or injected.

The reason to look at it as a NewsBlur alternative is story grouping. NewsBlur launched clustering in March 2026; Free and Premium users only see clusters on popular feeds where cluster data already exists, and clustering across all your feeds needs Premium Archive ([NewsBlur blog](https://blog.newsblur.com/2026/03/18/story-clustering/)). In Hushread, articles about the same event from different outlets are linked into one story on every plan, so you read one headline with the other outlets listed under it, and a story covered by 8 or more publishers opens a day-by-day timeline. Following a website that has no feed is on every plan too, where NewsBlur puts web feeds on the $99 tier. My [post on removing duplicates](/blog/rss-reader-remove-duplicates) compares the two approaches.

The limits, plainly. Hushread is free for 5 sources, so most NewsBlur users moving over will need Pro at $1.25 a month billed yearly ($14.99 a year in the US) ([plans](/docs/plans-and-billing)). There is no training or intelligence classifier like NewsBlur's, only keyword and tone rules that mute, mark read or notify. There is no self-hosting, no public API, no newsletter inbox, no integrations and no Mac or Windows app, though the web app works in any browser. It imports OPML but does not export it yet ([Import OPML](/docs/import-opml)), so your feed list is harder to take back out than it is from NewsBlur. Grouping is automatic and occasionally splits one event into two stories.

## How to move your feeds out of NewsBlur

OPML is the standard file of feed URLs and folders, and NewsBlur lists OPML import and export on that same comparison page. Export the file, import it in the new reader and compare the feed count. Your feeds and folders travel; training, saved stories, blurblog shares and read state do not. Hushread imports OPML too, but on the free plan the import fills your 5 free slots and skips the rest.

## When NewsBlur is still the better choice

Stay if training is why you use it. None of the readers above lets you thumbs up or down an author, tag, title or phrase and have the feed sort itself on that, with regular expressions on the Pro plan. Stay if you want the archive: Premium Archive keeps every story searchable forever. And stay if price is the issue at the low end: $36 a year for 1,024 sites is less than Inoreader, Feedly or Feedbin charge.

## FAQ

### Is NewsBlur free?

Yes, for up to 64 sites, with training by author, tag and title and the iOS and Android apps. New accounts get a 30-day premium trial first, and Premium costs $36 a year for up to 1,024 sites.

### NewsBlur vs Feedly: which is better?

NewsBlur is cheaper at $36 a year, open source, and lets you train what is shown and hidden. Feedly uses AI to decide what matters for you instead, with Pro listed at $7.99 a month on the US App Store.

### NewsBlur vs Inoreader: which should I pick?

Inoreader Free follows 150 feeds against NewsBlur Free's 64, and Pro raises that to 2,500 feeds for $7.50 a month billed annually. NewsBlur is cheaper to upgrade, at $36 a year, and its training and story clustering have no direct match in Inoreader.

### Which NewsBlur alternative groups duplicate stories?

Hushread links different outlets' coverage of one event into a single story on every plan, free for 5 sources. NewsBlur does it across all your feeds only on Premium Archive at $99 a year, and Inoreader Pro's duplicate filters remove copies but leave different articles about the same event separate.

### Can I self-host NewsBlur?

Yes. NewsBlur is open source under the MIT license and runs with Docker from its GitHub repository. FreshRSS and Miniflux are lighter self-hosted alternatives.

Whichever you pick, do not cancel first. Export your OPML, import it into the one reader that replaces the NewsBlur feature you use most, and read both side by side for a week before your NewsBlur renewal comes up. If that feature is clustering, the 5 free sources in [Hushread](https://hushread.com/#download) are enough to test it on the outlets you read most.
