# Follow a topic

> Track a word or phrase across the web, so new articles about it from any outlet land in your feed.

Hushread Docs, Sources. Canonical: https://hushread.com/docs/follow-a-topic

A topic follows a subject instead of a publisher. Every new article that mentions it, from any outlet, arrives in your feed.

## Add a topic

Either:

- Open **Add source**, type the words, and tap **Track "…" on the internet**, or
- Open **Discover**, find **Special feeds**, tap **Google News** (**Follow a topic**), type the words and tap **Preview and add**.

Topics appear in your sources list labelled **Keyword**. They count toward the free plan's 5 sources like any other source.

## Tips

- **Be specific.** *chip exports* finds far more useful coverage than *chips*.
- **One subject per topic.** Follow *Formula 1* and *climate* as two topics, so you can put them in different folders.
- **Pair it with rules.** A topic can be noisy. A [Mute rule](/docs/rules) on a word you don't want, like *opinion*, keeps it clean.

Topic results come from Google News search. Hushread opens the original article, not a Google redirect.
