# Notifications

> Every kind of push alert Hushread sends, what triggers each one, and how to turn them on or off.

Hushread Docs, Notifications. Canonical: https://hushread.com/docs/notifications

Push notifications work in the iPhone, iPad and Android apps. The web version doesn't send them.

## Turn them on

Hushread asks the first time (**Stay in the loop** › **Enable notifications**). If you said **Maybe later**, allow notifications for Hushread in your phone's settings.

## What Hushread can send

| Alert | When |
| --- | --- |
| **Source alerts** | A source you turned alerts on for publishes something new. New sources start with alerts off; after you add your first source, Hushread asks **Want alerts for this source?**. |
| **Rule alerts** | An article matches one of your [Notify rules](/docs/rules), from any source. |
| **Breaking stories** | A story your sources cover suddenly surges: 8 or more publishers within about 3 hours. At most one per story, and at most one an hour. |
| **Streak reminders** | At 8 pm local time, if you have a reading streak of 2 days or more and haven't opened Hushread that day. |
| **Morning reminder** | A daily nudge at 8 am, *Your morning feed is ready*, that opens Trending. |
| **Shared folders** | Someone shares a folder with you, or accepts one you shared. |

When a batch of new articles arrives from one source, you get one alert for the newest, not one per article.

## Turn types off

Open **Settings › Notifications** to switch **Breaking stories** and **Streak reminders** on or off. To stop everything, turn off notifications for Hushread in your phone's settings.
