ESPN's first Super Bowl production will have a wider streaming audience than its own services alone. Disney+ will carry Super Bowl LXI on February 14, 2027, according to ESPN.
The addition fits a broader ambition for Disney's streaming service. The Hollywood Reporter reported that CEO Josh D'Amaro wants Disney+ to become the company's "digital centerpiece."
How it unfolded
The October 7 coverage described the Disney+ announcement, although reports differed on its timing. ESPN said the announcement came Tuesday, while The Verge said Disney announced it Wednesday.
The plan extends beyond the United States. Variety Movies reported that Disney+ would stream the game in the U.S. and dozens of countries worldwide.
Disney+ will be an additional outlet, not a replacement for the television broadcasts. Consequence of Sound reported that Super Bowl LXI will also air on ESPN, ABC and ESPN Deportes. It will be the first Super Bowl shown on ESPN and streamed on Disney+.
Before the February 14 game, Disney+ will carry two Monday Night Football games, according to CNBC International. The announced matchup is Cowboys versus Eagles on October 26; the second game has yet to be determined.
Where it stands
The announced Super Bowl plan combines television coverage with a Disney+ stream available across multiple countries. For viewers, the change adds a viewing option while retaining the ESPN, ABC and ESPN Deportes broadcasts described by Consequence of Sound.
Sports are not the only live programming being added. The Hollywood Reporter also reported that Disney+ will stream New Year's Rockin' Eve, placing the Super Bowl move within a broader expansion of the service's live offerings.
What to watch
The next scheduled NFL stream is Cowboys versus Eagles on October 26. The remaining announcement to watch is the identity and date of the second Monday Night Football game, ahead of Super Bowl LXI on February 14, 2027.
