Disclosure: Hushread is our app. We’ve tried to be fair, and we say where the others are the better choice.
Every subreddit still has an RSS feed: add .rss to the end of its address on www.reddit.com. What changed in 2026 is that old.reddit feeds now need a login, and Reddit allows only about one logged-out feed request per minute from each IP address, which is why so many feeds suddenly show errors. Below are the URL patterns we tested on September 29, 2026, why feeds break, and how to keep them working.
Reddit RSS feed URL formats that work
We tested each of these logged out. All of them return an Atom feed that any RSS reader can read. Swap technology, spez and ai for your own subreddit, user or search term.
A single subreddit (returns 25 posts):
https://www.reddit.com/r/technology/.rss
Up to 100 posts in one request:
https://www.reddit.com/r/technology/.rss?limit=100
Newest posts first, or the top posts of the week:
https://www.reddit.com/r/technology/new/.rss
https://www.reddit.com/r/technology/top/.rss?t=week
Several subreddits in one feed:
https://www.reddit.com/r/technology+science/.rss
Everything a user posts:
https://www.reddit.com/user/spez/.rss
A search inside one subreddit, or across all of Reddit:
https://www.reddit.com/r/technology/search.rss?q=ai&restrict_sr=on&sort=new
https://www.reddit.com/search.rss?q=ai
How to get the RSS feed for any subreddit
- Open the subreddit on www.reddit.com, not old.reddit.com.
- Copy its address, for example
https://www.reddit.com/r/technology/. - Add
.rssto the end. To change the sort, putnew/ortop/before.rss, as in the examples above. - Paste the finished URL into your reader’s “add feed” box.
What changed in 2026: Most guides you’ll find were written before this summer. Since July 2026, old Reddit requires you to log in (Slashdot, RedLens), so old.reddit.com feed URLs redirect to a login page. Logged-out feed requests are limited to roughly one per minute per IP address. And the
.jsonendpoints some tools relied on now return a 403 error when you aren’t logged in.
Why your Reddit RSS feed stopped working in 2026
If a Reddit feed that worked last year now shows an error or stopped updating, it is almost always one of these three.
| What you tried | Logged out, Sept 2026 | Fix |
|---|---|---|
www.reddit.com/r/NAME/.rss | Works | None needed |
old.reddit.com/r/NAME/.rss | Redirects to login | Use www.reddit.com |
.json endpoints | 403 error | Use the .rss URL |
| Many feeds refreshed at once | 429 after the first | Combine with +, space out refreshes |
1. It’s an old.reddit.com URL
A feed like https://old.reddit.com/r/technology/.rss now sends your reader to a login page instead of a feed. The fix is simple: change old.reddit.com to www.reddit.com and keep the rest of the URL.
2. Reddit’s rate limit and the 429 error
In June 2026, Reddit cut logged-out RSS from 100 updates per 10 minutes to 1 update per minute per IP address, as Lapcat Software reported and a Hacker News thread discussed.
Our test matched. After a single request, Reddit’s x-ratelimit-remaining header dropped to 0. A second request straight away got HTTP 429 (Too Many Requests). A request 61 seconds later went through. The limit appears to be counted per IP address, not per feed.
In practice, a reader that refreshes ten subreddits at once gets one answer and nine 429s. Most readers show that as a feed error, or the feed quietly stops getting new posts.
3. A tool that relies on Reddit’s JSON
Some scripts and older integrations read reddit.com/...json instead of the RSS feed. Logged out, those URLs now return 403. Reddit’s API is not an easy way around this either: it moved to paid API terms in July 2023, and since November 2025 its Responsible Builder Policy requires approval for new API access.
How to fix a Reddit RSS feed that returns 429
- Combine subreddits.
https://www.reddit.com/r/technology+science/.rssis one request instead of two, and it counts once against the limit. - Ask for more posts per request. Adding
?limit=100means that when you refresh less often, fewer posts slip past between refreshes. - Refresh less often. If your reader lets you set a refresh interval for Reddit feeds, space them out.
- Try the private feed parameters (reported, not tested by us). Log in and open reddit.com/prefs/feeds. Reddit lists private RSS links for your account, and each one carries a
user=and afeed=value. According to the Lapcat Software write-up and the Hacker News discussion, appending those two values to other Reddit feed URLs gets past the logged-out limit:
https://www.reddit.com/r/technology/.rss?user=YOUR_USERNAME&feed=YOUR_FEED_VALUE
Copy the exact user= and feed= values from one of your private links. Treat the feed= value like a password: it is tied to your account, so don’t paste it into a shared or public tool.
Using a subreddit feed in your RSS reader
Almost every reader accepts the URLs above in its normal “add feed” box. A few details differ.
- Feedly can follow subreddits directly and also supports Reddit keyword searches and flairs, according to its help page on Reddit feeds.
- Inoreader has no dedicated Reddit integration. You add Reddit’s own RSS URL, which one Reddit user described as working, occasionally with small issues (thread).
- NewsBlur added Reddit as a source type in version 15, and the new Reeder mixes Reddit posts into one timeline with your other feeds.
- Apps that fetch on your own device, such as Feeder on Android, which has no cloud account, send every request from your IP address. They feel the one-per-minute limit most, so the combining and spacing tips above matter more there.
Web-based readers fetch from their own servers, so how well they cope depends on the service. If you follow many subreddits and see gaps, the rate limit is the likely cause, not your settings. For a wider look at readers, see our best RSS reader guide and Feedly alternatives.
The Hushread way: paste the subreddit link
Hushread follows subreddits on every plan, including Free, and you don’t have to build the feed URL yourself.
- Open Hushread on iOS, Android or the web and add a source.
- Paste the subreddit link as it appears in your browser, for example
https://www.reddit.com/r/technology/. - Hushread converts it to Reddit’s RSS feed and polls it from its servers around the clock.
New posts arrive in order alongside your other sources, with nothing ranked or injected. You can set a keyword rule to mute posts, mark them read, or get a push notification when a post mentions something you care about.
To be straight about it: Hushread reads the same public feed as everyone else, so it is not immune to whatever Reddit changes next. At the time of writing, subreddit feeds are pulling normally on Hushread’s servers. The Free plan holds 5 sources, so five subreddits fill it; Pro removes the cap for $14.99 a year. If you want Reddit alongside news without an algorithm in the way, our guide to a news app without an algorithm covers the wider picture.
FAQ
Does Reddit still have RSS feeds in 2026?
Yes. Add .rss to any subreddit, user or search URL on www.reddit.com. Feeds on old.reddit.com no longer work without a login, and logged-out requests are limited to about one per minute per IP address.
Why does my Reddit RSS feed say 429 Too Many Requests?
Reddit returns 429 when you make more than about one logged-out feed request a minute from the same IP address. Readers that refresh several subreddits at once hit it quickly. Combine subreddits with +, refresh less often, or try the private user= and feed= parameters from your Reddit feed preferences.
How many posts does a subreddit RSS feed show?
25 by default. Add ?limit=100 to the URL to get up to 100 posts in one request.
Can I get an RSS feed for a Reddit user or a search?
Yes. A user’s feed is https://www.reddit.com/user/USERNAME/.rss. A search is https://www.reddit.com/search.rss?q=TERM, or add restrict_sr=on on a subreddit’s search URL to stay inside that subreddit.
Does old.reddit.com RSS still work?
Not logged out. Since July 2026, old.reddit.com feed URLs redirect to a login page. Use the same path on www.reddit.com instead.
The short version
Reddit RSS still works if you use www.reddit.com, keep requests to about one a minute, and combine subreddits where you can. If you’d rather paste a link and let something else handle the feed, that is what Hushread does. Hushread is free with up to 5 sources on iOS, Android and the web. Try Hushread.
