Disclosure: Hushread is my app. I’ve tried to be fair, and I say where the others are the better choice.
Two Reddit RSS reader apps still get subreddits after Reddit switches off RSS on November 13, 2026: Feedly, whose Reddit integration runs on Reddit’s API rather than the feeds, and Hushread. Inoreader has said it can’t keep fetching Reddit posts once the feeds stop. NewsBlur moved its Reddit feeds to the API months ago, and Reddit started blocking those API calls on October 13, a month early. Everything that fetches a reddit.com/r/NAME/.rss address itself, which means NetNewsWire, FreshRSS, Miniflux, Reeder, Feeder, Unread with a local account and most others, loses Reddit on the 13th. Below is what each reader has said, what changed this week, and how to tell which group yours is in.
How to tell if your Reddit RSS reader stops on November 13
Open one of your Reddit sources and look at its address.
https://www.reddit.com/r/NAME/.rss, or anyreddit.comaddress ending in.rss: this is the feed Reddit is withdrawing. It stops on November 13 no matter which reader fetches it.api.reddit.comas the host: your reader is using Reddit’s API. That’s what a subreddit added by name looks like in Feedly, and those are expected to keep going.- No URL at all, because you added the subreddit by name or pasted its link: the reader handles it on its own servers. Hushread works this way, and it keeps following subreddits after the date.
Reddit’s own description of what feed users get is “there’s no replacement for the use of RSS feeds that were being used for feeds outside of the moderators’ community” (TechCrunch), so any reader that keeps working is doing something of its own. The announcement and every date are in Reddit RSS shutdown: what ends on November 13.
Reddit RSS reader apps compared
Prices are in US dollars from each product’s own pricing page, except where noted.
| Reader | How it gets subreddits today | After November 13 | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Feedly | Reddit API, connected Reddit account | Expected to keep working | Feedly’s integration page, Unread’s correction, r/feedly |
| Hushread | Add by name or paste the link | Keeps working | My own app |
| Inoreader | Reddit’s RSS feeds | Stops; “reviewing the options” | Inoreader blog, October 1 |
| NewsBlur | Reddit’s authenticated API behind .rss URLs | Already failing since October 13 with 403 errors; no workaround | NewsBlur forum, October 14 and 16 |
| Unread | Finds the .rss feed by name; with a Feedly account, Feedly’s API feeds | Only through Feedly | Golden Hill Software |
| Feeder | Builds the Reddit feed for you | Stops unless Feeder changes it | Feeder’s Reddit page |
| NetNewsWire, FreshRSS, Miniflux, Reeder | Fetch the .rss URL from your device or server | Stops | How they work |
| Upvote RSS (self-hosted) | Reddit API with your own app credentials | Until March 2027 at most, if the API lets you in | GitHub readme |
Feedly Reddit integration: the API carries it through
Feedly rebuilt its Reddit integration on Reddit’s API in April 2021. Its announcement says the integration “uses the Reddit API”, is “available for Feedly users on all plans”, and lets you follow subreddits by name, Reddit searches, your home feed and the top posts of your subscriptions once you’ve connected a Reddit account (Feedly). The same page puts the refresh at every 10 minutes and caps each Reddit source at 1,000 posts a day.

Feedly hasn’t published anything about the shutdown itself. The confirmation comes from John Brayton, who makes the Unread app and corrected his own earlier post on October 6: “The folks at Feedly expect this functionality to continue working after Reddit removes their feeds” (Golden Hill Software). Michael Tsai’s roundup adds an r/feedly comment from a Feedly account, FeedlyKev, saying Feedly “is registered with Reddit and using the API commercially, so these will continue to work” (Michael Tsai).
Three cautions. Only sources with the api.reddit.com host survive; a plain Reddit feed URL pasted into Feedly stops like anywhere else, as Brayton’s correction spells out. Reddit closes public API access in March 2027, so Feedly’s route depends on its commercial arrangement with Reddit holding up; in the comments on Tsai’s post a developer who registered with Reddit’s Developer Platform found its “offerings are essentially limited to moderation” and asked “what exactly Feedly is doing here”. And if your Feedly Reddit sources stop updating, Feedly’s help page says to disconnect and reconnect the integration from the Reddit source’s settings (Feedly help). Feedly’s Basic plan covers 100 sources (Feedly help); the paid plans are compared with Hushread in Hushread vs Feedly.
Inoreader Reddit feeds: honest, and out
Inoreader’s note of October 1 says existing Reddit feeds “will continue to receive updates for as long as Reddit provides them”, and then: “Once Reddit stops serving its RSS feeds, we’ll no longer be able to retrieve new posts through them.” It’s “reviewing the options” and “can’t confirm an alternative yet” (Inoreader). Nothing newer has appeared on its blog since. Inoreader does fetch Facebook, Bluesky, Telegram and VK without RSS on its Pro plan, $7.50 a month billed yearly, but Reddit isn’t on that list and the pricing page doesn’t mention it (Inoreader pricing). If Inoreader builds an API route it’ll say so on that blog, and I’ll update the table.
NewsBlur Reddit feeds: on the API, and blocked since October 13
NewsBlur shows what happens to an API route Reddit doesn’t like. Its founder Samuel Clay moved subreddit feeds to Reddit’s authenticated API in June, after months of 429 errors (NewsBlur forum). On October 14 users reported every Reddit feed failing, and Clay explained: “NewsBlur already uses Reddit’s authenticated API for subreddit feeds, even though the subscription URL still ends in .rss.” He had checked the server logs: “Reddit is currently rejecting API requests with 403 errors.” He added that “there isn’t a confirmed workaround yet, and using the API doesn’t guarantee continued access if Reddit changes its restrictions” (NewsBlur forum).

On October 16 Clay posted the email he sent Reddit: the API answers NewsBlur’s OAuth requests with HTTP 403 and the page “You’ve been blocked by network security”, first seen on October 14, from server-side calls at 95 requests a minute. The next morning the developer of SubStory, an iOS Reddit app, reported the same block from a different client ID on his users’ phones, starting around 20:14 UTC on October 13, with anonymous .json requests failing from the 14th: “Two unrelated apps on unrelated networks got the same block on the same day.” As of October 17 neither has heard back from Reddit. So the API path that NewsBlur, Upvote RSS and any home-made script rely on is not a safe harbour until March 2027; it can close for you today.
Unread: fine with Feedly, not otherwise
Unread is a Mac, iPhone and iPad reader that syncs with several services. Brayton’s first post on September 30 said Unread would remove its ability to find a subreddit’s feed by name once the shutdown happens (Golden Hill Software). His correction narrows that: Unread users syncing with a Feedly account can connect Reddit from Unread’s account settings and keep subscribing to subreddits by name, while every other account type loses Reddit feed discovery.

Feeder, NetNewsWire, FreshRSS, Miniflux, Reeder: they fetch the feed, so they lose it
Feeder’s Reddit page, last updated September 27, says you choose Reddit, type a subreddit or a username, and “Feeder builds the feed for you”; it doesn’t mention the shutdown (Feeder). NetNewsWire, FreshRSS and Miniflux have no Reddit integration at all: you give them the feed URL and they fetch it. Reeder lists “Reddit channels” among its sources (TechCrunch) and its site says nothing about how it gets them or about November 13; treat it as a feed fetcher until it says otherwise. Feedbin’s blog hasn’t mentioned Reddit this year. There’s nothing for these readers to switch to and no announcement to wait for.
Reddit RSS reader apps for Android and iPhone
The App Store and Play Store list a dozen “Reddit RSS reader” apps that mix subreddits into a feed list, NewsNinja among them. Their listings say subreddits are added by name with no account, and none says whether it reads Reddit’s .rss feeds, its .json endpoints or the API (NewsNinja on the App Store). Anonymous .json requests from phones were among the calls Reddit started blocking on October 14, so assume these apps stop on the 13th at the latest unless the developer says otherwise. On Android and iPhone the two readers with a stated route are the same as on the web: Feedly with a connected Reddit account, and Hushread.
Build your own with the API: too late for most people
Upvote RSS is a self-hosted tool that turns subreddits into filtered feeds. Its readme says that “due to Reddit’s API policies it is required to first set up an app” and asks for a Reddit client ID and secret (Upvote RSS on GitHub). That’s the catch. Reddit stops accepting new public API requests on October 31, 2026, removes unregistered apps from January 12, 2027, and closes public access in March 2027 (PPC Land). Existing credentials buy a few months, if the block that hit NewsBlur doesn’t reach you first. Without them it’s over before it starts.
Hushread: subreddits keep working
In Hushread you add a subreddit by name or by pasting its link, on every plan, and new posts arrive newest first with their text, next to your other sources. That carries on after November 13. The shutdown applies to Reddit’s .rss addresses, and Hushread’s subreddit sources don’t depend on them. If Reddit changes the rules again, I’ll say so here. The limits are the usual ones: the free plan holds 5 sources, and Pro removes the cap for $1.25 a month billed yearly ($14.99 a year in the US). There’s no Mac or Windows app; on a desktop you use the web app in a browser.
Reddit RSS not working already? What the October errors mean
If your Reddit feeds broke this week, before the 13th: a 429 is Reddit’s rate limit on logged-out feed requests, about one a minute per IP address, which has hit shared readers all year (subreddit RSS feed URLs that work). A 403 or 404 on every subreddit at once, in a reader that was fine the day before, is the API block above. Either way the feed still opens in your browser, which is why it looks like the reader’s fault, and re-adding it doesn’t help.
If you’re switching readers because of this
Moving your feeds is easy and moving your Reddit feeds is pointless: export an OPML file, import it, and every reddit.com/.rss entry dies on the 13th in the new reader too (what OPML carries). Delete those entries and re-add each subreddit the new reader’s own way, by name in Feedly or Hushread. The rest of the decision, price, apps, filtering, is in Feedly alternatives. Keep the plain .rss feeds running alongside until the 13th, to check the new source against the old one.
FAQ
Which RSS reader works with Reddit after the shutdown?
Feedly’s API-based integration and Hushread’s subreddit sources are the two I can point to today. Both add subreddits by name rather than by feed URL. NewsBlur’s API route is blocked as of October 17.
Does Feedly still work with Reddit?
Yes, when the subreddit is added through Feedly’s Reddit integration, which uses Reddit’s API with a connected Reddit account and is available on all plans. A plain Reddit feed URL pasted into Feedly stops with everything else on November 13, 2026. If the integration stalls, disconnect and reconnect it from the source’s settings.
Does Inoreader support Reddit after November 13?
Not so far. Inoreader says it can’t retrieve new posts once Reddit stops serving its feeds and that it’s reviewing options, with no alternative confirmed.
Why is my Reddit RSS feed not working in NewsBlur?
Since October 13 Reddit has been answering NewsBlur’s API calls with 403 “blocked by network security” errors, which NewsBlur shows as 404. The founder says there’s no confirmed workaround and nothing to change on your side.
Will NetNewsWire, FreshRSS or Reeder Reddit feeds stop working?
Yes. They fetch Reddit’s RSS feed directly, and Reddit is withdrawing the feed, so nothing on the reader’s side can keep it alive.
Is there a Reddit RSS reader for Android or iPhone that keeps working?
Feedly’s app, with a Reddit account connected, and Hushread on both platforms. The store apps that call themselves Reddit RSS readers haven’t said how they fetch Reddit, and the anonymous requests phones use were being blocked by October 14.
If you already use Feedly, you don’t need to move. Connect your Reddit account and re-add your subreddits by name before the 13th. If you want subreddits next to news without an algorithm, and five sources is enough to start, Hushread is free on iPhone, iPad, Android and the web.
