Coverage adds that the iPad mini will be available to preorder on October 28 at 10:10 a.m. PT, with a November 6 launch date, according to Mashable and MacRumors. The Next Web also reports that the tablet keeps the previous model's footprint while expanding its screen to 8.5 inches.

How it started

Apple's latest hardware announcements had been building towards its October 28 "Pro and tell" event. On October 25, MacRumors reported that Bloomberg's Mark Gurman expected new iMac and 14-inch MacBook Pro models on Wednesday.

The iPad mini arrived first. Xataka reported that its October 26 unveiling came ahead of expectations that it would appear on Wednesday.

How it unfolded

On October 26, Apple Newsroom announced what the company called the iPad mini's "biggest update ever". The announcement combined an OLED display, a thinner design and the A20 Pro chip with water and dust resistance.

The screen is larger as well as different in technology. The Verge reported that the new OLED display measures 8.5 inches, and that the Wi-Fi-only model starts at $699.

9to5Mac reported that the redesigned tablet is both thinner and lighter. The A20 Pro chip is another central change, alongside the display and body redesign.

For Indian buyers, the starting price is Rs 82,900, according to Times now. Its report also confirmed the larger OLED display and the addition of water and dust resistance.

A separate report from MacRumors identified a charging qualification: fast charging needs a 35W adapter sold separately. Apple's specifications say the tablet can reach up to 50 percent charge in around 30 minutes with a suitable USB-C power adapter.

Where it stands

The iPad mini is now officially announced, rather than an expected addition to Wednesday's event. The confirmed changes cover the screen, processor, physical design and protection against water and dust, according to Apple Newsroom.

In India, Rs 82,900 is the reported entry price, according to Times now. Buyers who want the advertised fast-charging capability will also need to account for a separately sold adapter, as MacRumors reported.

What to watch

The next scheduled milestone is Apple's October 28 "Pro and tell" event. MacRumors reported expectations for new iMac and 14-inch MacBook Pro models, but those remained expected announcements in the supplied coverage, unlike the now-confirmed iPad mini.
