How it started

The latest sequence of alerts followed a Wizz Air flight from Luton being forced to divert on November 2, according to GB News.

By November 3, threats were disrupting flights across several European countries. Reuters reported that no devices had been found, while The Local said all the affected planes in its report had landed safely.

How it unfolded

On November 3, a LOT flight from London's Heathrow airport to Warsaw's Chopin airport diverted to Modlin after a bomb threat, according to Global News. Modlin temporarily closed and reopened around midday, CBC News reported.

A second aircraft, an SAS Scandinavian Airlines flight from Copenhagen, was also targeted, according to The Hindu. It was checked at Warsaw's Chopin airport, CBC News reported.

Alerts also affected flights to Spain and Bulgaria. Deutsche Welle reported threats involving a Ryanair flight to Spain and a flight from Israel to Sofia. Bulgaria's transport ministry also reported a threat against a Wizz Air flight from Milan/Bergamo to Sofia, according to NDTV.

In Italy, two Ryanair aircraft were escorted by fighter jets to Rome's Fiumicino airport. Checks of the aircraft, passengers and baggage found nothing, according to TGcom24.

Reports differed on the total and some route details. The Guardian reported four aircraft, while Il Post and the Financial Times reported seven. GB News identified a Ryanair flight from Manchester, while Deutsche Welle described the Spain-bound Ryanair flight as departing London.

On November 5, an Aer Lingus flight from Dublin to Rome diverted to a French airbase after a bomb alert, the French prime minister's office said, according to Sky News. Deutsche Welle identified the aircraft as an Airbus A320 and the landing location as Evreux.

Where it stands

The latest coverage does not give a completed search result for the aircraft diverted to France. A statement from French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu's office said the situation was being monitored, according to Euronews.

That leaves an important distinction: earlier searches found no explosives, but the newest alert remains unresolved in the supplied reports. Il Post reported that it was not known whether the November 3 incidents were connected.

What to watch

The immediate question is what security checks establish about the aircraft in France. Fanpage reported that checks were under way after the diversion.

The broader questions are who made the threats and whether they formed a coordinated series. nu.nl reported that the source of the November 3 warnings and any connection between them were unknown.
