Disclosure: Hushread is our app. We’ve tried to be fair, and we say where the others are the better choice.
The best RSS feeds for news are the ones the outlets still publish themselves: the BBC, The New York Times, The Guardian, NPR, Sky News, Al Jazeera, France 24, CBC, ABC News, CBS News, Fox News, The Hindu and The Times of India all run free feeds that were updating when we checked. Reuters and AP are the two big names with no public feed we could find, and CNN’s old feed still loads but stopped updating. The 40 URLs below were each fetched on 7 October 2026, and each had stories dated 6 or 7 October.
How this list was checked
Most lists of news feeds are copied from older lists, so they carry addresses that died years ago. This one was built the other way round.
For each outlet we opened its own RSS page where it has one, took the feed address from there, requested the feed, and read the dates on the newest items. A feed made the list only if it returned HTTP 200, parsed as RSS or Atom, and had an item from the previous 24 hours or so. A feed that loads but has not had a new item in months is listed as dead, further down.
Two caveats. The check was run from India on one day, and outlets do change or block feeds without notice. And a feed tells you what was published, not what you can read: several of these outlets have paywalls, and the feed links lead to the same paywalled pages.
World news RSS feeds
Every URL in this table comes from the outlet’s own page, linked under the table.

Sources: the BBC’s News feeds from the BBC page, The Guardian’s feeds help page, France 24’s RSS feeds page, Sky News’s RSS page and CBC’s RSS page. Al Jazeera’s feed is the one its homepage declares in its HTML; we did not find a separate list page.
BBC RSS feeds
The BBC’s page lists a feed for each section in the same pattern: swap world for uk, business, politics, health, technology or science_and_environment. It also lists regional feeds such as world/europe and world/asia. The page itself is dated 10 January 2011, and the addresses on it still work, which is rare.

Guardian RSS feeds
The Guardian needs no list. Its help page says you can “find the feed for any index page simply by adding /rss to the url” (The Guardian). We tested that on three section pages, including https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/rss, and all three returned current feeds.
US news RSS feeds
| Outlet | Feed | URL |
|---|---|---|
| The New York Times | Home page | https://rss.nytimes.com/services/xml/rss/nyt/HomePage.xml |
| The New York Times | World | https://rss.nytimes.com/services/xml/rss/nyt/World.xml |
| NPR | News | https://feeds.npr.org/1001/rss.xml |
| NPR | World | https://feeds.npr.org/1004/rss.xml |

| Fox News | Latest headlines | https://moxie.foxnews.com/google-publisher/latest.xml |
| Fox News | World | https://moxie.foxnews.com/google-publisher/world.xml |
| The Washington Post | World | https://feeds.washingtonpost.com/rss/world |
Sources: The New York Times’s RSS Feeds page, ABC News’s RSS page, CBS News’s RSS Feeds page and Fox News’s RSS feeds page. NPR’s News feed is the one its news section declares in its HTML; the World feed follows the same pattern and worked, but we did not find it on an NPR page. The Washington Post’s World feed is the one the RSS button on its World section page links to; the link there starts with http:// and redirects to the address above.
A few things we saw while testing:
- The ABC News addresses redirect to
abcnews.com/abcnews/...and then return the feed. Any reader follows that. - CBS lists a feed per section on its page. The top stories feed worked. The world feed (
/latest/rss/world) was flaky when we tried on 7 October 2026: some requests got HTTP 406 and later ones got a current feed, so it is not in the table.
NYTimes RSS feeds
The Times publishes its section feeds in one pattern. Business is https://rss.nytimes.com/services/xml/rss/nyt/Business.xml and Technology is https://rss.nytimes.com/services/xml/rss/nyt/Technology.xml; both were current. The feeds carry “the latest headlines, summaries and links back to full articles”, so not the full text, and the Times allows them “for personal use in a news reader or as part of a non-commercial blog” (The New York Times).

Business and tech news RSS feeds
| Outlet | Feed | URL |
|---|---|---|
| BBC News | Business | https://feeds.bbci.co.uk/news/business/rss.xml |
| BBC News | Technology | https://feeds.bbci.co.uk/news/technology/rss.xml |

| CNBC | Top news | https://search.cnbc.com/rs/search/combinedcms/view.xml?partnerId=wrss01&id=100003114 |
The Verge’s feed is the one its homepage declares in its HTML. CNBC’s address is the Top News link on its RSS feeds page.
Feeds that work, but that we couldn’t trace to an official page
These eight addresses are in common use, and each returned a current feed on 7 October 2026. What we could not do is open an official page that lists them: the outlets’ sites refused our requests, or we found no such page. Treat them as working today and less certain tomorrow.

Reuters, AP and CNN: what we found
Reuters. We found no official public feed. The old host, feeds.reuters.com, no longer resolves at all: our request failed at the DNS lookup. Reuters’s own site answered our requests with HTTP 401, so we could not check its pages for a current feed. A third-party source, the knowledge base of the feed reader Feeder, says the feeds “stopped updating in June 2020” (Feeder).
AP. Also none that we could find. apnews.com/index.rss and apnews.com/rss both returned HTTP 403, as did the AP homepage, so we cannot tell you what AP’s own pages say. We are not listing any AP feed URL.
CNN. http://rss.cnn.com/rss/edition.rss still returns a valid feed with HTTP 200, which is why it survives on so many lists. Its newest item is dated 9 April 2024 and most are from April 2023. CNN’s old RSS page, edition.cnn.com/services/rss/, now redirects to the homepage. Count it as dead.
The unofficial workaround
Google News has an RSS output for searches, and a search limited to one site gives you something close to a feed for that outlet:
https://news.google.com/rss/search?q=site:reuters.com+when:1d&hl=en-US&gl=US&ceid=US:en
We fetched that URL and the same one with site:apnews.com. Both returned current Reuters and AP headlines. This is not a Reuters or AP feed. Google decides what appears, the links go through Google News, and Google could change or remove it at any time. Our Google News RSS feed generator builds these URLs for any site or search.
How to use these feeds
Copy a URL from a table and paste it into your reader’s “add feed” box. That is all a feed needs. If you don’t have a reader yet, our best RSS reader guide compares the main ones by platform and price. Hushread takes any of these addresses under Add a source; its free plan holds 5 sources.
Start with fewer feeds than you think. A top stories feed from one outlet can run to dozens of items a day, and five outlets covering the same event means five headlines for it. Section feeds (world, business, technology) are quieter than home page feeds. If the repeats bother you, some readers filter copies and a few group different outlets’ coverage of one event; see RSS readers that remove duplicates.
For an outlet that is not here, look for its feed yourself. The method that found the Al Jazeera, NPR and Verge feeds above, searching the page source for rss+xml, is the second of five in how to find the RSS feed of any website.
FAQ
What are the best RSS feeds for news?
For broad world coverage, the BBC, The Guardian, Al Jazeera, NPR and France 24 feeds are a solid base, and all were updating on 7 October 2026. Add one outlet from your own country and one section feed for a subject you follow closely.
Does the BBC have an RSS feed?
Yes. The main BBC News feed is https://feeds.bbci.co.uk/news/rss.xml, and there is one for each section, such as https://feeds.bbci.co.uk/news/world/rss.xml. All four we fetched on 7 October 2026 were current.
Is there a NYTimes RSS feed?
Yes. The home page feed is https://rss.nytimes.com/services/xml/rss/nyt/HomePage.xml, and the Times lists feeds for its sections on its RSS page. They carry headlines and summaries, and the Times allows them for personal use in a news reader.
Is there a Reuters RSS feed?
Not an official public one that we could find. The old feeds.reuters.com addresses no longer resolve. A Google News RSS search limited to reuters.com works as an unofficial substitute, and may stop working.
Are news RSS feeds free?
The feeds are free to subscribe to. The articles they link to follow the outlet’s usual rules, so a feed from a paywalled paper still leads to paywalled pages.
If a feed here stops working, check the outlet’s own RSS page first, since that is where a new address will appear. And if you would rather not manage feeds at all, a news app that picks the sources for you is the easier choice; an RSS reader only pays off when you want to choose them yourself.
